I grew up in a small town in the midwest. There was tea but nothing exceptional. My love of tea started when I was a teenager. My family often hosted Japanese exchange students who would bring with them the most exquisite teas to share with my family. It was at this time I realized there was a whole world of tea out there that I had never seen or experienced the likes of. Soon I went off to college where I studied Anthropology.

I have always had an extreme interest in different cultures and places. This love coupled with a love of food (I'm an avid home cook) sent me down a scattered path. I had an affinity for these two things but couldn't figure out how to fit them together. Then I realized, what better way to combine these interests than in tea.

Tea is rich in culture and community. It's not only an amazingly heathy plant filled with rich antioxidants, but can gather friends and family and provide real ritual in life and culture.

At Urbanitea, we believe that exceptional quality teas should be a part of the U.S. market. More foods, herbs, coffees, and TEAS are available to us than ever before. But, as with most of our food industry, the majority of teas we see in the U.S. market are products of heavy industrialization.

It is my goal to help sustain the small traditional farmers who are growing and celebrating tea to its full potential. Our teas come from people who are true artisans, harvesting and working the teas by hand to bring you an exceptional cup.

I hope you try our teas and experience the same wonderment and delight as I did as a teenager so many years ago. Happy sipping!
